Swing Out Iowa is run by Conan Collins and Xixuan Collins. We met at the Ballroom Dance Club at Iowa State University. Although we had taken the same dance classes, we had taken them at different times, which created a very interesting dynamic for dancers: we both had the same repertoire of moves, but had never met before. It was a rare pleasure to meet someone who already knows the way you move; the long-time dancers out there know how special such a thing is. We currently live in our first home in Bettendorf, IA, and are working to help build a dance community in Bettendorf. We dream of seeing a viable Argentine Tango group here in the Quad Cities, and bringing social dance to the City of Bettendorf. We have taught social dance in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and now Bettendorf, and will be looking forward to teaching Argentine Tango in the Quad Cities. |

About Conan Collins Conan started as a Swing dancer in Ames. He has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State, and moved to Iowa City after receiving a position as a technical salesman for Parr Instrument Company. He currently works selling pressure vessels and reactors to the laboratory industry. If you have a chemical reaction to run at elevated pressure, he has a reactor to sell you. Conan started dance at Iowa State taking a ballroom dance class his senior year. During his senior-senior year in Ames, he continued learning Swing Dance from Steve Grody, and Argentine Tango from Valerie Williams. After moving to Iowa City, he continued Swing dance with Jeffrey and Andrea Smith. Today, he seeks more Argentine Tango instruction wherever he can find it. Conan is inherently egotistical, self-entertaining, self-absorbed, and thinks he's usually right, regardless of what facts (real or imagined) crop up. He loves martial arts, social dance, origami, and web design. Conan also has an odd belief that the best male social dancers have a background in martial arts. About Xixuan Collins Xixuan has her Ph.D in Nutrition from Iowa State, and currently teaches Anatomy and Physiology, along with Nutrition at Blackhawk College. She moved to Iowa City with Conan, and worked as a postdoc researcher for Dr. Arthur Spector at University of Iowa. She is published in the scientific community of nutrition and biochemistry. If you have a body and like to eat, Xixuan has a class to teach you about both of these subjects. Xixuan started dance at Iowa State with the Ballroom Dance Club. She started with the ballroom dances, and continued learning Argentine Tango with Valerie Williams, and Swing Dance with Steve Grody. After moving to Iowa City, she continued Swing dance with Jeffrey and Andrea Smith. Today, she seeks more Argentine Tango instruction wherever she can find it. Xixuan has learned many styles of dance, from ballet to raqs sharqi (belly dance).
